Going green does not necessarily mean painting your workplace green. Going green actually means using various alternatives to help save energy and the environment.

There are more ways than one to go green in your workplace. A lot of office spaces and work places are now taking the greener side of things. What you can do to save on your expenses and on your cost are endless. Check these tips out:

1. Instead of using the usual ink and toners, why not use soy-based ink? Soy-based ink does not have the same chemical content as that of regular inks. As such, it is safer for the environment and it’s also more cost efficient. It also produces brighter colors because soybean oil is naturally clear. If you bring your old office papers into recycling facilities, it would also be easier to recycle papers printed with soy-bean oil because it is easier to remove during the de-inking process. If you are a little doubtful about soybean ink, try to consider the fact that a quarter of the commercial printers in North America uses soybean ink, and eighty nine percent of the country’s daily newspapers with circulation of more than 1400 uses soy ink. See?

2. Do away with vending machines. Most offices have vending machines that dispense coffee. While they may save you from a lot of headaches in the morning, it is not very friendly to the environment particularly those that dispenses its own cups. Whenever possible, instead of having vending machines in your office, try to invest in machines that would encourage your employees to make their own coffee or beverage. If that is not possible or if you feel that would decrease your employee’s productivity, try to check out vending machines that uses paper cups used from recyclable materials or those that would allow you to use your own mugs.

3. Use online fax services. Online fax is another green alternative because it saves a lot on energy, resources and cost. You can junk your old traditional fax machine and save on electricity since online fax uses your computer to complete its transactions. You don’t have to maintain a regular supply of fax papers, inks and toners because with online fax, you can choose which fax messages should be printed and which are junk. You also don’t have to pay for additional phone lines for your fax machine because you will be sending your fax messages using your computer. Save your company on your expenses and save the environment. It’s like hitting two birds in one stone.

The things that you can do for your office is endless. Actually, going green does not only benefit the environment but it also benefits your company because you save on energy and you also save on your cost. This is probably the reason why more and more companies are choosing the green alternative and are starting to care for the environment. If only companies would start to let go of their old ways, we can have a better and brighter world.
